The 'QR Souvenir Module' is a modular component designed to complement interactive media art. It records the audiovisual experience and delivers it directly to participants via the web. This allows participants to take home their experience as a 'souvenir'.
Originally developed as an accessory to our TouchDesigner-based works 'Baby's First Drum Machine' and 'Be: /Prompt', this module functions as a standalone web-based application and can be adapted to a wide variety of installations.
When the record button is pressed, the audiovisual experience is captured as a file and sent to a web server via HTTP. In a WiFi environment, it takes under a minute from recording a short HD video to printing a QR code souvenir for the participant.
The video sent to the web server is optimized for the web including potential bumpers such as titles, credits, and branding. A QR code linked to the URL of the final version of the video is then generated and sent back to the venue via WebSocket.
When the QR code is received by the venue’s PC, it is automatically printed. Scanning the QR code allows the video to be played or downloaded. Additionally, if the participant shares the video on social media, it is expected to reach a wider audience, further spreading awareness of the work.
This is a sample video captured using the module. The final bumper was added in the web server flow.
