About

Patternbased is a top level alias for the creative works and collaborations of J. Minadeo. It is a parent entity to store and organize child entities (projects) under. Projects can take on a variety of forms, from traditional solo and collaborative musical works (albums, tracks, remixes and recorded improvisational pieces) to mixed media works incorporating still images, video and interactive media.

The purpose of this site

Patternbased.com exists to collect selected works under one roof as well as elaborate on and document the process of creating the works. The blog attempts to record thoughts and plot steps in the creative process as well as spotlight interesting concepts, influences and art as well as ongoing Patternbased created media. The projects are the results of the creative process.

Commonly, media is mixed to achieve a non mixed result (i.e. A clip of video can influence a piece of music where only the musical piece is released or a homegrown generative Jitter patch can create a clip of video). By using a blog to record and catalog at least portion of the creative steps, those steps can then take their place as part of the final piece.

The Woodland Sound

The Woodland Sound is the home of Joseph and Kendra Minadeo, co-curators of its working museum of interchangable parts, the studio where things get created. Most of what you see and hear on this site is created at least in part at The Woodland Sound. A wide variety and expanding array of hardware and software is always available. There is always a positive and negative aspect to having a large collection of creative tools handy but most of the negative aspects can be avoided by forcing limitations on each project.
